I’m a big dude 6’2″ 250lbs and was able to strap this baby on! The adjustable lumbar support is a nice touch, it allows you to put the weight where it needs to be. For test purposes I was able to pack the following: Teton deer hunter sleeping bag, Teton head pillow, rope, 2 person tent, hatchet, hiking poles, 3L bladder, 2 32oz water canteens, and I still have a lot of space to pack food and clothing. I bought a Teton deer hunter bag -35 that I managed to fit inside a compression sack very carefully, that fits inside this pack…If you know what kind of sleeping bag I’m talking about then you know how ‘impressing’ that is! Granted this is not practical for a long hike, but good to know incase you do an overnight and want to keep warm during cool temps. It can be zipped incase the bottom compartment is going to be utilized specifically for a sleeping back.

I really like the unzipping of the bottom compartment that allows you to use the full length inside the pack. Has plenty of space for long hikes or overnight hikes. In short, Teton Sports provides fabulous quality at a fabulous price. I actually look for their products now and preference those over competitors. I guess I’m just passionate about Teton Sports, and trust the brand and products because of how their products have performed for me. Although, I have a lot of Teton Sports products, and I’ve never needed to use the warranty. I love that Teton Sports offers a great warranty and stands behind their products. They are bright orange and would make it easy for someone to find you in an emergency. They not only keep the pack dry in case of rain, but can also be used to create a shelter in a wilderness survival situation. I like the attached poncho/tarp for each of the packs.

I like the detachable bag for toiletries or other items to which you need quick access. I love the extensive padding in the lumbar area. I really like how the back panels and the torso width are adjustable so they can be highly customized to me. And, with the compression straps, you can make the bag smaller at times you don’t need all the space. With this pack, you don’t have to make those kinds of decisions. Have you ever had to ask yourself “Do I really need an air mattress?” or “Do I really need a pillow?” I have, seriously, because the other packs I had were so small. If you like to have room to pack and protect the things you really want to make your backpacking trip amazing and comfortable, then you should seriously look at this pack. If you are a minimalist, less-is-more type of backpacker, then this pack may have too much space for you. If you do need to put something on the outside of these packs, they have many higher-quality loops, ties and compression straps that don’t look like they are going to tear off. Plus, with the Grand 5500, that gear is much more effectively protected from the elements than just being tied to the outside of a smaller pack. With other packs I’ve had, most of that stuff has to go on the outside of the pack, and then it gets dirty and clumsily bumps into things. I like that the sleeping bag compartment is larger than other backpacks I have, so I can much more easily fit a high-quality sleeping bag, air mattress, blanket, pillow, etc. It always seemed like I needed more space in the past. I love the space in the Grand 5500 backpack, so I can easily fit in what I need. The things that stand out most to me on this pack are the quality and the attention to detail. My hat is off to whoever is behind the design. You can tell that a lot of time went in to the design of this pack. So, I purchased a Teton Sports Grand 5500 Backpack for me. I already had multiple packs, but didn’t want to worry about the reliability of my pack any more. I was DONE with low-quality packs and was ready to graduate to a backpack that can live up to the wear and tear to which I’m going to unavoidably subject it.

I tend to be hard on my packs, and I’ve had a lot of problem with ripping, tearing, straps coming un-stitched and broken zippers on lower quality packs. EXTRA LARGE SLEEPING BAG: Warm, water-resistant canvas sleeping bag is 15 inches longer and 3 inches wider than most sleeping bags Size 90x39 inches (229x99 cm) Pack weight 17.I’m a scoutmaster of a Boy Scout troop and I’ve purchase many less-expensive backpacks over the years.
